The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has closed down the office of an immigration consultancy firm that was reported to have been recruiting Filipino workers without proper authority from the government.
Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac ordered the closure of First World Immigration (First World), with office address at DRT Highway, Tarcan, Baliuag, Bulacan, to prevent further exploitation of innocent applicants for overseas employment.
Cacdac said a concerned citizen reported that First World was recruiting vineyard and dairy farm workers, and fruit pickers for New Zealand without a license from the POEA.
The POEA Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch, with the assistance of the Baliwag PNP and Public Employment Service Office (PESO), padlocked the First World office after confirmation that First World was indeed engaged in illegal recruitment activities.
According to the report, First World charged its applicants a placement fee of Php60,000.00 and medical examination fee of Php4,000.00 to Php4,500.00.
Cacdac ordered the filing of illegal recruitment cases against the responsible officers and employees of First World, and the inclusion of the names of Bernadette Angeles and Julia A. Umali a.k.a. Julia Angeles in the POEA List of Persons with Derogatory Record.
Cacdac reminded all jobseekers for overseas employment to apply only with licensed recruitment agencies with accredited job orders.
