A Filipino woman based in the United States was dubbed one of the most “gifted” gift-wrappers in the country early this month.

Diana Lemos from San Diego, California placed second in this year’s “Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper Contest” held at the Rockerfeller Center in New York City during the first week of December.

Lemos, who hails from Rizal, got $2,500 for her win. She competed in the third and final round of the “battle of ribbons and wraps” with Gardena, California’s Rosie Sato, who eventually bagged the $10,000 grand prize.

In an interview with Fox 5 San Diego, Lemos referred to herself as a “gift-wrapping artist” who fancies ribbons.

“I love gift-wrapping,” she quipped as she demonstrated her skills for the camera. “I could do this all day!”

The competition, sponsored by Scotch brand tape maker 3M, held a preliminary judging, where eight finalists—four amateurs and four professionals—were chosen.

The finalists then had to go on three rounds, wrapping odd-shaped gifts like a gumball machine and a board game (Round 1) and an old-fashioned snow sled (Round 2).

Lemos and Sato made Round 3, where they had to wrap “a six-foot tall backyard play set.”

In her interview with Fox 5, Lemos gave advice on wrapping odd-shaped items—try to make a shape out of it, or just “tie a big bow around it [to] make it look like a gift!”

The Filipina referred to gift-wrapping as her passion, adding that she takes delight in seeing other people’s reactions to gifts that she wraps.

“Even before they open it, they’ll be like ‘I don’t want to open it!’ But too bad, you [have to] see what’s inside,” she told Fox 5. – VVP/HS, GMA News
