The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), launched a P2 billion overseas Filipino workers(OFW)Reintegration Program in line with President Benigno Aquino III’s agenda of providing sustainable business to OFWs and their families.

The said program was launched yesterday by DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, during the first National Congress of OFWs held at the SMX Convention Center Mall of Asia in Pasay City, in observance of the National Migrant Workers Day.

According to OWWA-CAR regional director Manuela Peñag, the P2 billion Reintegration Program, which will be implemented by OWWA in partnership with the Land Bank (LBP) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) offers low interest rates and easy payment schemes, as business/enterprise assistance to OFWs and their families.

Peña also affirmed that in the OFW Congress which was widely participated in by OFW representatives from the different parts of the country, Baldoz also led the initial awarding of the said livelihood financing program to 11 OFW family beneficiaries with the total amount of P8 million.
In line with this, Peña announced that OWWA-CAR will now accept applications for the said program, which offers livelihood financing assistance from as low as P100,000 up to as high as P2 million to OWWA member OFWs, may it be an individual, organized group, or an OFW enterprise.

Meantime, Peña also stressed that the National Congress has been a good venue for OFWs to bring in their concerns and join government’s efforts of crafting better policies and programs. Each region, including Cordillera, submitted a manifesto, prepared during the OWWA-initiated regional OFW Congress.

OWWA-CAR also led two OFW Family Circles (OFCs) exhibitor at the said national congress. The Bagong Bayani Family Association of Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet brought in their vegetable- enriched noodles and chips while the Cordillera Beekepers Overseas Workers Association Inc. (COBOWAI) of Irisan Barangay, Baguio City brought in their bee products, such as honeybee, bee pollen, and honey wine.

    Hi,

I am an OFW from Dubai
I have started my independent gas station for a year and for now its going strong.

Anyone who might be availing the OWWA loan, can look at putting up their own gas station. With your budget of 2M would be enough to put up one like the “Bulilit gas station”. Compared to other franchise players, margin is minimal so you have to play by the volume to reach their quota.

Here, you are your own boss at very flexible margin.
