The Bacolod City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) registered 855 jobseekers abroad for the first month of 2010.
Among those 855 applicants were domestic helpers, nurses, carpenters and welders.
Based on PESO records, there are 572 male and 283 female applicants.
Bacolod City is always helping constituents by providing more opportunities for those who wish to work abroad.
In the year 2000 there were 841,628 OFWs. During the administration of President Gloria M. Arroyo the number climbed to 1.28 million OFWs according to government records.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s diplomatic initiatives opened more doors for Filipinos to work abroad with better labor deals for their safety in their host country.
Bacolod PESO has been recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment for being the Top Regional Performer in Western Visayas, and has earned the nomination for the 2009 National Best PESO Award in the Highly Urbanized City category.
