A 27-year-old Filipino university lecturer in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was sentenced to five years for allegedly giving drugs to his student, a report of Emirates 24/7 said.

The Filipino was also charged for drug use and ordered to pay Dh20,000 (around P220,000). He will be deported after serving his jail term.

Emirates 24/7 on January 19 said the student involved in the case are being prosecuted before the juvenile court.

Court records said the police received information about the student taking drugs.

The report said the police arrested the student on June 30 last year and confiscated 0.43gms of crystal meth from his wallet.

The student then told the police that the Filipino allegedly gave him the drugs.

When he was arrested, the Filipino denied the charges. However, his urine sample showed him positive for drug use. – VVP, GMA News
