Pinay stewardess Charela Bambilla Tigno never thought that investing in bonds would immediately make her richer by 1 million dirhams or 12.9 million pesos.
Tigno, a 31-year-old flight stewardess in the United Arab Emirates, is the first millionaire of the weekly draw of the National Bonds’ Shariah-Compliant National Saving Scheme. She won exactly
“Becoming a millionaire thanks to National Bonds was an incredible feeling. They have encouraged me to continue saving by [investing] with their high rate of profits every year and the opportunity to win the 101 weekly prizes,” she told the Emirates Business 24/7.
Despite the excitement, the Filipina worker said she has already decided on what to spend the money on.
“First on my agenda is charity work back home. I always donate money and now also I want to share my prize money with the less fortunate people,” she said.
Aside from charity, Tigno said she’s going use her newly earned millions to fulfill some dreams of her own.
“I have always dreamt of buying a food chain in the Philippines and now I can achieve that goal,” she said.
This, said the National Bonds, shows how their saving scheme helps people.
“We have people from a broad mix of nationalities living in the UAE and this win shows not only the appeal of our bonds but also the good things that can be done by these bonds,” said Mohammed Qasim Al Ali, CEO of National Bonds.
On its website, the National Bonds said that their weekly draws reward over 60 million dirhams or almost P780 million in prize money.
The raffle is drawn every Saturday.
