House commends honest Saudi OFW
The House of Representatives had commended Filipino overseas worker Lark Micheal Colegado for his honesty when he returned some 1.2 million Saudi Riyals (P15 million) to its owner in Saudi Arabia last October.
The House approved Resolution 1500 endorsed by Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Carlos Padilla, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and Gabriela Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan.
The three lawmakers, who are members of the House committee on overseas workers affairs, recently visited the Middle East to look into the situation of the Filipino workers there.
Their last stop was in Jeddah where they met and acknowledge Colegado during the dialogue with the Filipino community leaders at the Philippine consulate premises.
Padilla informed Colegado that members of congress are proud of what he has done as it demonstrated the good attributes of a Filipino.
Colegado, a 34-year-old native of Tacloban City, gained popularity last October for his honesty when he returned a huge amount of money he found to its owner.
Colegado, an ATM maintenance technician, was fixing an offline machine in the northern city of Tabuk when he found a box containing the money in a gasoline station. He immediately phoned his superior who then informed officials of the bank that owned the machine.
Aside from the owner, Colegado’s superiors also thanked him for his honesty.
“This is one of the most important things we can be proud of as a Filipino, and I am very thankful” Colegado said. – KK/RSJ, GMANews.TV
