No welcome cheers from relatives greeted the return of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Kuwait.
After more than 4 years of working hard as a domestic helper in Kuwait, OFW Almarie Hawod came home in a box. Hawod died of lungs, blood and heart complications.
Her body arrived on board a commercial plane in Zamboanga City and was met at the airport by her grieving relatives.
Hawod’s family, meanwhile, said they are concerned that they might not be able to get benefits from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) because her membership had expired.
Although Hawod is no longer qualified to avail of the insurance and death benefits, her kin, particularly her 4-year-old son is still eligible for OWWA’s scholarship program.
