Six critically acclaimed and unique Filipino films will take the spotlight in an international film festival in Israel.

The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv said the 2010 Cinema South International Film Festival in Sderot, Israel, will focus on the six Pinoy films.

“Featured films for the festival are Brilliante Mendoza’s Kinatay, Lola, Tirador, and Serbis, Raya Martin and Adolfo Alix’s Manila and the Lino Brocka classic Insiang,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

It added that Mendoza will be the featured director of the festival, as he captured the cinema world with his triumph as best director during the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in France.

Philippine Ambassador Petronila Garcia will host a cocktail reception at the Philippine opening night on June 1.

Mendoza will also be present during the screenings.

The festival and the film screenings will be open to the public from May 30 to June 3.

The Cinema South International Film festival is a branch of the Department of Film and Television in Sapir Academic College.

On its ninth year, it has won much meaningful exposure in the international press.

The film festival was made possible through the combined effort and cooperation between the organizers and the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Embassy. — LBG, GMANews.TV
