Some 2,000 Filipinos are still working in Libya despite the deployment ban there, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday.

DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said most of these Filipinos are nurses attending to those injured in the violence there.

“Meron tayong problema sa Libya, Alert Level 4 sa Libya at merong in effect deployment ban para sa Pilipino na gusto pumunta doon. At ine-encourage natin, we have been pushing bumalik dito sa Pilipinas because of the violence existing in Libya,” he said in an interview on dwIZ radio.

“We have around 2,000 OFWs na ayaw pa magsilikas doon,” he said.

The Philippine government had ordered the mandatory repatriation of Filipinos after raising the alert level there to “4,” Hernandez noted.

“Pero ang ating kababayan doon nandoon pa nagtatrabaho lalo ang nurses sa hospitals para tulungan ang nasaktan sa nangyari sa kaguluhan,” he said. – VVP, GMA News
