OWWA now welcomes nominations from various NGOs, POs, religious organizations/ associations, community-based organizations/associations, and LGUs for OFW families who meet the following criteria: a) wholesome family; b) civic/community involvement of OFW and family; c) success in OFW and family’s education and/or profession; and d) success in managing family finances.

The Philippine Consulate-General in Milan reported the death of a Filipino national who died of suffocation when a tourist bus caught fire between the towns of Varazze and Celle Ligure in Italy on July 18.
Milan resident Procopio de la Cruz died of suffocation when a tourist bus containing 63 other Filipinos caught fire. Initial investigations suggested that it was due to an electric short circuit. Another Filipina, Billy Jane Sabio, was airlifted to a hospital in Genova due to her injuries. The Consulate General said that her condition has already stabilized.
